Oι "Μαγεμένες",κατα τον 17ο αιώνα, αποτελούσαν την εποχή εκείνη ένα από τα βασικά αξιοθέατα της Θεσσαλονίκης και δίκαια είχαν αποκτήσει τον τίτλο,"Καρυάτιδες της Θεσσαλονίκης" ...
Ονομαζόταν τα "Είδωλα" από τους Χριστιανούς, για τους Σεφαραδίτες ήταν οι "Incantadas", οι Μαγεμένες, ενώ για τους Τούρκους,οι "φιγούρες των Αγγέλων".

Ένας θρύλος των βυζαντινών χρόνων,ήθελε τις "Μαγεμένες", να είναι η σύζυγος του Θράκα βασιλιά μαζί με την συνοδεία της, που έχουν "πετρώσει", χτυπημένες απο τα μάγια του συζύγου της,καθώς προσπαθούν να επισκεφθουν κρυφά το δωμάτιο του Αλέξανδρου.
Αν και πάνω από 100 χρόνια γινόταν προσπάθεια για την αρπαγή των αγαλμάτων από τους εκάστοτε πρόξενους,τελικά ο Emmanuel Miller το 1864 είναι αυτός που θα καταφέρει να τα αρπάξει και να γίνει ο Έλγιν της Θεσσαλονίκης.

Επρόκειτο για μια πραγματική λεηλασία,όμοια με αυτή του Παρθενώνα!

Η τελευταία μαρτυρία θέλει το σπίτι αυτό και ότι έχει απομείνει απο την "Στοά των Ειδώλων"να περνάει στην κατοχή ενός εβραίου που τελικά θα τα πουλήσει λίγο πριν το 1917 σε Άγγλους.
Το σπίτι του πλούσιου εμπόρου και οι τελευταίες μνήμες από τις "Μαγεμένες" θα χαθούν....

Ό,τι και αν ,έχει απομείνει από αυτό,θα έρθει να καταστρέψει και να το διαγράψει από τον χώρο και την μνήμη της πόλης η μεγάλη πυρκαγιά του 1917.

Στην Θεσσαλονίκη θα παραμείνουν μόνο οι θρύλοι...
